Welcome to the official Back to Basics Products web site!

For more than 20 years now Back to Basics has been making some of the planet’s most natural and environmentally-responsible products – shampoos and conditioners, natural handwashes and bubble bath, skin care, our extensive range of essential and massage oils and our pioneering green cleaning products.

Many of our customers have been with us for our entire 20-year-plus existence, but if you’re just joining us here’s a brief history. Our first products were developed to assist people who, for various reasons, were sensitive to the chemicals, synthetic colouring and fragrances and other nasties found in many of the products we use on a daily basis. From day one, Back to Basics has taken an all-natural approach, using plant-based ingredients coupled with our extensive knowledge of essential oils to create products that are not only safe for everyone to use – they’re effective too.

We soon found that products that are safer and more human-friendly are also friendlier for the environment, so we pioneered a range of cleaning products that were “green” well before that concept had entered the mainstream. We were also one of the first companies to encourage the re-use of our containers, offering refill services in both Geelong and Williamstown and selling to other outlets in bulk so they could do the same. You can find our products in many outlets that share the same natural goals as we do, including Friends of the Earth, The Greenstore, The Environment Shop, CERES (the Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies) and some 50 independent retail outlets such as healthfood and organic stores around Australia.

And now we’re on the web too! We would still love you to visit our store in person or one of our numerous retail partners to re-use your containers or just have a chat, but if you can’t make it in but still want to purchase our products, we hope this site makes it easy to do that.
